SARAH KENCHINGTON (one-woman-band-extraordinaire) + Bubble Sort

Saturday 30th March 2019, 8pm-10.30pm, £8

Unitarian Chapel, Brunswick Square, Bristol, BS2 8PE

Inventor and artist Sarah Kenchington lives on a farm in the Campsies, Scotland, where for the past 10 years she’s been building her own remarkable mechanical instruments, including a pedal-powered hurdy-gurdy, a giant rotating kalimba and her own brass band, powered by tractor inner-tubes.

She’ll be performing her constantly evolving semi mechanical orchestra for her Bristol performance. Made from strictly human powered, mechanically assisted, acoustic instruments, this orchestra is designed to be played by one person and creates music that is dictated, in part, by the uncontrollable nature of the instruments in this set up.  These include a pedal powered double ended hurdy gurdy/banjo, a pyramid structure that plays crystal glasses,  a mechanical sequencer, and a brass band section which uses balloon membranes.

Support comes from Bubble SortBubble Sort loves to put compositions into order.
Bubble Sort takes a music score and reorganises it using pitch, volume and note duration to reinterpret the music into something more agreeable to his obsessively ordered mind.
Like the Morecambe and Wise joke on Andre Previn, it is all the same notes, but not necessarily in the right order.
