Experimenting with sound for film – will be a practical, hands-on workshop, exploring ideas around sound-making with a variety of materials and looking at different aspects of synergy between the audio and the visual in experimental film.
No previous experience is needed and we are open to non-musicians and musicians, film-makers and curious beginners alike.
Throughout the day we’ll explore improvisation, focussed listening, experimentation, microphoning and amplification.
We will bring films and the visual work of film makers and artists to extend the ideas we can play with together on the day. Most of all we will be sonically stretching our muscles and making use of both the films and the assembled group to experiment.
We’d love you to bring along different materials, including any objects with sound-making potential (surprise us!) or musical instruments of any sort. We will also provide a wide range of sonic objects to play with.
The workshop is led by BEEF members Shirley Pegna and Melanie Clifford, artists whose interdisciplinary practices concern space, sound, music, moving image, broadcast and landscape.
